The cruise search engine 'CruiseWatch' did a study to see in what cities going on a cruise for an entire year is actually cheaper than just staying at home.

Admittedly, there are no surprises here. It is absolutely cheaper to live in North Dakota than it is to go on a cruise for a year straight. Surprisingly though, it is not that much cheaper.

When it comes to cities like New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and even Stamford, Connecticut, going on a cruise for a week for literally every single week of the year is cheaper than living in those cities.

So while people who live in New York City can spend 365 days on a cruise ship and actually save money, the same cannot be said for those who lives in various cities throughout North Dakota.

According to CruiseWatch's numbers, the average cost of living in the Bismarck-Mandan area is $17,108 a year per person.

In Fargo-Moorhead the average cost of living per person for a year is $16,744.

In Minot, the average cost of living is $18,200 per person per year.

If you wanted to go on a 7 day cruise every single week of the year, that would run you about $22,694 per person.

That means that for Bismarck-Mandan residents, if you have some extra savings and are willing to spend just an extra $5,586 per person per year, you can spend the next 365 days on the water and not worry about making a huge dent in your savings.

For residents of Fargo-Moorhead, they'll have to shell out an extra $5,950 to cruise for a year and in Minot it is an extra $4,494 per person.

It should be noted if you choose to go on a cruise for an entire year, you may lose your job and your income. Maybe consider taking a 7 day cruise just one time out of the year.
