Officials at a Bismarck-Mandan living facility have reported an outbreak of bedbugs.

April Bishop, executive director at Edgewood Vista Villages, disclosed the outbreak in a letter to residents earlier this month.

“We have had a confirmed case of bed bugs in the north part of our building,” she wrote.  The letter did not specify which facility or which building was affected.

The letter stated a specialized cleaning company was being brought in and ongoing inspections were being conducted.  Trained dogs we also reported to be used in rooting out the pests.

A spokesperson for the North Dakota Department of Health, said bed bugs are not known to transmit diseases, and can happen anywhere.

Here is a rundown of what you need to know about the critters.
