A Washington, D.C. couple left their toddlers in their car on a cold evening to attend wine tasting at a posh restaurant, police report.

Jennie Chang, 46, and Christopher Lucas, 41, attended a wine tasting at an upscale D.C. establishment, leaving their children, both under two years old, in the car outside in freezing weather.

The couple left an iPhone open in the vehicle with the children to monitor them.

But that isn't good enough, according to the law. Both were arrested Monday (Feb. 2) and charged with second-degree cruelty to children at the District of Columbia Superior Court. A judge has placed an order allowing no contact between Chang and Lucas and the children.

Both have entered a not guilty plea. If convicted, they each could face up to ten years in prison.
