Educators help mold the future. One of the most important jobs in our society are our educators. Unfortunately, teachers in the Peace Garden State rank near the bottom of the pay scale in the country according to information released this week at Go Banking Rates.

A teacher's degree is one of the lowest salaried jobs in the country with an average pay of $45,000 a year according to a 2015 study conducted by Georgetown's Center of Education.

Despite the pay, teachers are some of the most passionate professionals in our work force and serve the community and children well.

The lowest paying state was Mississippi with an average pay of $43,043. Other low paying states included Oklahoma, South Dakota and Arizona.

The highest paying state was Alaska at $77,843. Other states at the top included Connecticut, New York, California and Massachusetts.

In North Dakota, the average yearly salary for a teacher is $49,480.

Elementary school teacher's salary: $47,110

Middle school teacher's salary: $52,920

High school teacher's salary: $48,410

Next door in Minnesota, the average pay for a teacher is $61,560, while in Montana, the pay is  $52,467.
