Holidays take on a meaning once you have kids. Christmas seems to be the one most dads notice goes to the wayside for your kids -- and we're more than happy to let it.

But, for me, that wasn't the only one I had to give up on once I had kids. They ALL went away for me.

It's pretty common knowledge that dads only really get 2 days to themselves each year. Father's Day, and their Birthday. That's more than any of us really need. With Amber (my oldest) it was MORE than enough to only have them celebrate me those 2 days and allow the spotlight be on someone else the rest of the time.

Then Elijah came along. The year he was born, I got the greatest Birthday gift ever. I got to take him home from the hospital the first time on my Birthday -- 2 days after he was born.

A couple years later, I got the best Father's Day gift when I got to bring my daughter Lily home from the hospital -- 2 days after she was born.

Ever since then... the focus when my days roll around is always on my kids.

I love it. They should have the focus.

But... lets be honest... Every couple years... It would be nice to have one or the other.

Oh well. I guess I'll just have to wait for the grandbabies and make sure to mess up a few occasions for my kids. ;-)
