Let's face facts...When people hear the words 'North Dakota', one of the first things they think of is the movie Fargo. While it is a great movie, the majority of the film isn't set in North Dakota.

That's why I decided to put together a list of five films that are set in North Dakota, that aren't named Fargo:

  • 1

    Leprechaun

While this 1993 film, starring Jennifer Aniston, was shot in California, it's actually set in North Dakota.

During a trip to Ireland, Daniel O'Grady captures a leprechaun, takes his gold, and brings it back to his home in North Dakota.

The rest, as they say, is cinematic history. There have been six installments in the Leprechaun series, all of which have starred Warwick Davis.

  • 2

    The Messengers

The Messengers is a 2007 supernatural horror flick, starring Twilight's Kristen Stewart and My Big Fat Greek Wedding's John Corbett.

It's set on a sunflower farm in North Dakota and follows a family that begins to experience some very creepy events. It's a classic ghost story, set right here in the Peace Garden State.

  • 3

    Wooly Boys

Wooly Boys was released in 2001 and stars Kris Kristofferson and Peter Fonda as a sheep rancher in rural North Dakota.

Fonda's character, "Stoney", travels to Minneapolis from Medora to visit his daughter. It's there that he bonds with his grandson, setting off a chain of events that powers the rest of the film.

  • 4

    The Purchase Price

Released in 1932, The Purchase Price is the oldest film set in North Dakota (that I could find).

Starring Barbara Stanwyck, the film is about a New York singer who tries to escape her criminal boyfriend by trading places with her hotel maid and becoming a mail order bride. She is purchased by a farmer in North Dakota.

    The Far Horizons

The Far Horizons is one of many Westerns that actually take place in North Dakota. This one, released in 1955, starred Charlton Heston and Fred MacMurray.

The film is about an expedition led by Lewis and Clark, who are sent to survey the territory that the United States has just acquired from France in the Louisiana Purchase.
