This is not what you want to hear for the kick off weekend of the North Dakota State Fair, The National Weather Service in Bismarck has issued a FLASH FLOOD WATCH.

Severe weather is expected through a majority of the state today and through Saturday afternoon. This has prompted the National Weather Service in Bismarck to issue  FLASH FLOOD WATCH for a majority of the listening area including the counties of Sheridan, Burleigh, Morton, Kidder, Stutsman, Sioux, Emmons, Oliver, Grant and Mercer.

Rounds of thunderstorms capable of producing very heavy rain is possible  for these areas, producing between 2 to 4 inches of rain. Some of these storms can merge together or redeveloped throughout the area, making the situation dangerous for travelers and those communities in low lying areas. Extreme caution should be taken for those traveling to the State Fair during very heavy thunderstorms.

Towns and communities included in the watch area are Bismarck, Mandan, Jamestown, Wilton, Carrington, Minot, New Salem, Underwood, Fort Yates, Harvey, Elgin, Linton, Oakes and Napoleon.

From 1 p.m. today (July 22) through Saturday afternoon, rounds of heavy rain can produce rainfall of 2 inches per hour, or exceeding this amount in some areas. Extreme caution should be taken in low lying areas, and areas around creeks and streams.
