Ladies, the next time your guy complains about the amount of money you spend on handbags, give him this as a basis for comparison.

The prominent auction house Christie's, famous for its sky-high fashion sales, sold an Hermes Birkin bag in Hong Kong over the weekend for a staggering US$222,219 (which is around 1.72 million Hong Kong dollars).

The lavish designer bag, part of a line which is notorious for its long waiting list and inflated price tag, is made of crocodile skin in a fuchsia color and boasts 18K gold hardware and diamond accents.

The previous record was also set by an Hermes Birkin, one of red croc skin, which sold in the U.S. for $203,150 in 2011.

Christie's declined to identify the buyer of the bag.
