Kids certainly know their pizza. In fact, the first graders in Kari Nehls' class at Highland Acres Elementary School know pizza so well, it's getting sold at Bruno's Pizza in Bismarck.

Recently, Kari Nehls was teaching her Highland Acres first graders how to cut shapes into halves. Somewhere along the line, the notion of a half-and-half pizza shape turned into designing a half-and-half pizza with a variety of ideas for sauce and topping combinations.

These ideas turned into prototype pizzas made by 'teams' of students in the class. The pizzas were voted on publicly as to which would serve as the best half-and-half pizza. And as it turns out, they just so happened to partner with Bruno's Pizza in Bismarck to sell these pizzas from their menu on this coming Monday and Tuesday (March 19th-20th). In fact, Monday night, the kids from the team that designed the pizza to be sold will be recognized at an event at Bruno's Pizza from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Kari Nehls said that 10 percent of the sales will go towards the 'School Lunch Fund' for the Bismarck School District. Nehls also mentioned how proud she was of the class working as teams and showing off their communication skills throughout the project/competition. Through the friendly competition, each student was supportive of those on the opposing teams, which showed great sportsmanship throughout.

Nehls and her students from the winning team of first graders from the project will be live in-studio on Friday (March 16th) during the 3 p.m. to talk with Jax on HOT 97.5 about the project and event coming up at Bruno's on Monday night. Come out and support the first-grade students from Highland Acres at Bruno's Pizza Monday evening from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Bruno's is located at 910 E. Front Ave in Bismarck.
