Say what you want about Miley Cyrus -- but what she did tonight at the 2014 MTV VMAs was pretty outstanding.

A far cry from last year's VMAs, Miley brought a young homeless man named Jesse to the awards show this year. He accepted the pop star's moonman for Video of the Year for 'Wrecking Ball' on behalf of all of the homeless youth in our country.

"I'm accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States, who are starving, lost, or scared for their lives right now," Jesse stated, his hands shaking as Miley unsuccessfully tried to choke back her tears. "I know this because I am one of these people."

We love that Miley used her moment in the spotlight -- winning Video of the Year is no small feat! -- to bring focus to an important issue that she feels deeply passionate about.

For fans looking to learn more about homeless youth and how to help them, head on over to Miley's Facebook page, and watch Jesse's heartfelt speech in the video above.
