If you're looking for a feel-good story, look no further.

Homeless student Fred Barley, 19, rode his little brother's bike six hours to Barnesville, Ga., to register for classes at Gordon State College.

The dorms don't open until August, so Barley, who had nothing more than a box of cereal to eat, lugged a tent with him to sleep in until then. The police found him and were prepared to give him a ticket for trespassing when he relayed his tale.

The cops were so moved by his story that one of them took action, according to Barley:

He was so understanding and he said, ‘I definitely I applaud you for doing this. We can’t allow you to stay here, but I have somewhere you can stay.'"

The police put up Barley, who hopes to go to medical school, at a hotel for two nights. "The stuff that’s happening with police officers, I am black and he didn’t care what color I was. He just helped me, and that meant a lot."

The officer's wife shared  the story on social media and then things real took off for Barley.

The hotel agreed to let him stay until the dorms open, while a  local restaurant gave him a job as a dishwasher. And several people have donated items to Barley, as well as money and created a Facebook page for him.

Barley is keeping a level head about everything. "Some of the gifts aren’t as important as the friends I’ve made. More important than everything -- the clothes, the shoes -- the relationships mean so much more to me."
