Hugh Jackman took to Instagram today, Nov. 21, to share some startling news with his fans: he has been diagnosed with basil cell carcinoma, the most common form of cancer.

"Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked. Boy, was she right!" Jackman captioned the photo of himself with a bandage on his nose. "I had a basil cell carcinoma. Please don't be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!"

Basil cell carcinomas, or BCCs, are "abnormal, uncontrolled growths that arise in the skin's basal cells which line … the outermost layer of skin," SkinCancer.org explains. Fortunately for the beloved Aussie actor, he listened to his wife of 17 years, Deborra-Lee Furness, and went to the doctor. Though this type of skin cancer rarely results in death, if untreated, it can lead to disfigurement.

We wish Hugh Jackman all the best in his recovery!
