Starting at a gym, or working out in general, can be a scary thing. It's time to get over that fear!

As you may know, I began working out with two trainers at the South Bismarck Anytime Fitness three times a week beginning June 1st. I have no problem admitting that I was nervous and a little scared, but I am now three weeks in and I can say it is one of the best things I could have done for myself.

Here's a few things I discovered after beginning my fitness journey earlier this month:

  • Develop Goals

One of the first things my trainers, Casey and Thomas, helped me with was developing goals.

Sure, you want to 'lose weight' and 'get in shape,' but there are goals beyond that. I want deal with stress in a positive way, meet new people, and live a healthier lifestyle.

When you begin to feel less motivated or intimidated by working out or the gym, start thinking about your goals.

  • Don't Be Embarrassed

I don't know about you, but I was mostly intimidated by other people. Whether I'm running outside or on a treadmill, I was worried about what people would think.

I quickly discovered that everyone is working toward a similar goal; to better themselves. One thing I've come to love about going to the gym is that there is a wide variety of people working out. Not only are there people at many different fitness levels, there are people of all ages. Plus, most are so concentrated on their own workout, they're too busy to notice how out-of-shape I am on the elliptical next to them.

  • Ask For Help

This one is HUGE. I've been a dancer most of my life so dancing has always been my workout. I've never lifted weights or used half of the equipment in a gym.

Of course, having a trainer help me has been amazing. I would highly consider getting one if you are new to fitness - BUT, never be afraid to ask the staff at your gym questions. I've even had the staff at the South Bismarck Anytime Fitness jump in and do the workout with me!
