Giving hope to everyone who's keeping their fingers crossed for an all-alumni judging panel for next year's 'American Idol,' Jennifer Hudson is now officially on board.

One down -- two to go.

Kelly Clarkson is also said to be close to signing a deal, which leaves just one seat open (E! Online reports there will be only three judges for the upcoming season).

Hudson placed seventh on the third season of 'Idol' -- but even though she didn't win, she's gone on to have one of the most successful careers of all the show's contestants. She won a 2006 Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in 'Dreamgirls,' most recently appeared on the (now-canceled) series 'Smash,' and very publicly lost some 80 pounds as a Weight Watchers pitchwoman.

Assuming Clarkson signs on to the judging panel as well, the remaining spot will allegedly go to either Clay Aiken or fan favorite Adam Lambert.

Reports a couple days ago said Aiken was out of the running, but maybe that's not the case -- which means you can expect Glamberts the world over to lobby hard for their man, who's already expressed great interest in the gig.
