An active shooter situation that began earlier today (3/18) has ended, after a man who had fired shots at police officers was taken into custody this evening.

According to WDAY, the situation began at approximately 1:45 p.m. this afternoon, when someone called police to inform them that there was a man with a gun inside a room at the Rodeway Inn, located on Main Ave, in West Fargo.

When officers arrived to check on the man inside the room, he began shooting. Between three and four officers were targeted by the gunman.

SWAT and negotiators were called in to defuse the situation and get the man to leave the hotel room peacefully. The man did, however, say that he would not go down without a police officer going down with him.

Police do know the identity of the man, but they have not released it. They have confirmed, however, that he is not from the area.

All of the people that were staying at the Rodeway Inn have been evacuated.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
