The man who caused a Bismarck police officer to discharge his firearm on Saturday, January 23 is facing five charges in South Central District Court. 

According to the Bismarck Tribune, 18-year-old Miguel Stubing is facing the following charges:

  • Theft of property
  • Fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer
  • Two counts of reckless endangerment
  • Reckless driving

At 2:37 a.m. on Saturday (1/23), Bismarck police responded to a call involving a stolen 2014 gray Ford Escape. The driver was 18-year-old Miguel Stubing of Mandan. Sgt. Jordan West located the stolen Escape and gave Stubing verbal commands which were ignored. Stubing allegedly drove the vehicle at West resulting in West discharging his firearm in self defense.

Luckily, west was not injured. Stubing suffered two gunshot wounds but remained stable.

The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is currently looking at West's use of force. West has been with the Bismarck Police Department for 6 years and has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.
