Melissa Etheridge Thinks Angelina Jolie’s Double Mastectomy Was a ‘Fearful Choice’
But singer Melissa Etheridge thinks that decision wasn't brave at all, and has no qualms saying so.
"I have that gene mutation too and [having a preventative double mastectomy] is not something I would believe in for myself," Etheridge said in an interview with the Washington Blade. "I wouldn’t call it the brave choice. I actually think it’s the most fearful choice you can make when confronting anything with cancer."
Etheridge, a breast cancer survivor who had five rounds of chemo to rid herself of the disease, then proceeded to give her expert medical opinion on how cancer operates, saying it's mostly brought about by stress.
"My belief is that cancer comes from inside you and so much of it has to do with the environment of your body. It’s the stress that will turn that gene on or not.
"Plenty of people have the gene mutation and everything but it never comes to cancer so I would say to anybody faced with that, that choice is way down the line on the spectrum of what you can do and to really consider the advancements we’ve made in things like nutrition and stress levels.
"I’ve been cancer free for nine years now and looking back, I completely understand why I got cancer. There was so much acidity in everything."
In short, Angelina Jolie is a coward because she was proactive about decreasing her risk of cancer instead of just lowering her stress and cutting out coffee. Or something.
Personally, we think she's a remarkable woman who made an extremely difficult decision, but of course everyone's entitled to an opinion. Even if it's, you know, kinda kooky.
