Back in April, the University of North Dakota announced that they would be cutting the school's baseball program. Unfortunately, that may not be the only program getting the ax.

According to The Grand Forks Herald, UND president Mark Kennedy recently announced in a campus-wide email that he would be reassessing the school's athletic department, which could mean cutting more sports programs.

The school saw a $1.4 billion budget shortfall in the 2015-16 fiscal year, which led Kennedy to propose the reassessment of the school's athletic programs.

Many of the sports programs UND participates in are considered 'core' to the Big Sky Conference, meaning that if the school cuts those programs, they may lose their spot in the conference, according to The Grand Forks Herald.

Non-core sports in the Big Sky Conference include both men's and women's hockey, which will most certainly not be cut, but swimming and diving and softball could be.

President Kennedy hopes to have the whole department reassessed by January, which may be when the school announces cuts to certain programs.
