Families know how important it is to budget for their child's day care. It turns out that North Dakota has the most affordable day care of any state in the country.

According to Care.com, over the past year, prices for infants in center-based day care range from $6,605 to $20,209 annually with an overall average of $10,468 per year. For toddlers, center-based day care ranges from $8,043 to $18,815 a year while the annual average is just under $10,000.

The national average cost of child care per week has steadily increased since 2013. It's gone from $186 per week in 2013 to $211 in 2016. The cost of living in your particular area and state are also determining factors in those costs, which is key for where North Dakota sits compared to the rest of the country (including Washington, D.C.).

The most affordable states in the country for child day care are as follows:

  2. Utah
  3. Delaware
  4. Arkansas
  5. New Jersey

In contrast, the least affordable states in the country for child day care are:

  1. Washington, D.C.
  2. Oregon
  3. California
  4. Alaska
  5. New York
