Obviously, this is very much a hypothetical. We certainly don’t hope that North Dakota engages in a Civil War.

Besides, North Dakota people pretty much have the minding our own business mindset. We're pretty easy-going. We have the same laid-back lifestyles. What would we even be finding about?

Despite knowing this would probably never happen, I was curious and I found an article written by 24/7 Wall Street. It read: States that Could Best Survive a Civil War. Naturally, I was curious as to where North Dakota ranked on this list. Before we get into that, lets look at a couple other things.

Least Likely State To Survive

You might be wondering how they could possibly calculate this information. The source indicated that it looked at several different variables like states asset states assets for independence, natural resources access to see for trade, and cultural identity.

With that, I will tell you which state is least likely to survive a civil war.

According to the source, the least likely state to survive a civil war is none other than Vermont.

Their metrics also indicate that the most likely state to survive a Civil War is California. The state would be successful due to the port on the Pacific Ocean, the international border with Mexico, and because they are top 10 in agriculture, mining, and manufacturing.

North Dakota

Unfortunately, North Dakota does not rank very well on this list; we come in at number 41 putting us very close to last place.

The source says, our state is very landlocked, thinly populated, and we have an international border with Canada along with nuclear sites. It says these things would not work in our favor.
