The legendary White Cloud was an icon in North Dakota, and attracted millions of visitors for Jamestown, but passed away Monday at the old age of 19.

White Cloud lived in the rolling hills in the National Buffalo Museum. She was a fixture there in Jamestown, before moving back to where she was born, Shirek Buffalo Farm near Michigan, North Dakota. The town is roughly 60 miles west of Grand Forks.

An estimated 3 million people visited White Cloud, while she was part of the museum herd. Not only are white bison rare, they are also said to be sacred to indigenous peoples in North America.

The National Buffalo Museum is planning to display a full body mount of White Cloud.
