Spanish actor Alex Angulo tragically died in a car accident over the weekend, reports the Hollywood Reporter. He was 61.

Angulo, known for his role as the doctor in Guillermo del Toro's Oscar-winning 'Pan's Labyrinth,' starred in more than 60 films over the span of his career, including 'The Day of the Beast,' 'Dying of Laughter' and 'The Great Vazquez,' all of which scored him nominations for Best Actor at Spain's Goya Awards. According to Twitch, he was mainly known as a comedic actor.

According to El Pais, Angulo died when the car he was driving veered off the road in Fuenmayor, Spain.

In 'Pan's Labyrinth,' Angulo played the kind doctor who tended to main character Ofelia's mother, but was shot and killed by her stepfather, the Captain, after it was revealed that the doctor was anti-Francoist.
