The Bismarck Tribune reports that Hillside Pool, a popular summertime destination with Bismarck residents for over six decades, may see some badly-needed updates in the coming year.

The facility is awaiting a decision by the Bismarck Park Board, scheduled for Thursday, on whether or not to award roughly $3.8 million in contracts to set the improvements in motion.

The renovations, if approved, will include a lap area, medium-sized water slide, a climbing wall, and a large water play area. Work will also be done to make operation of the pool more efficient and bring the facility up to current building codes. Finally, the pool building will be made more accessible for the handicapped, and major improvements will be added to the shower facilities.

Project leaders hope to have the renovations completed by the 2015 swim season.
