Emmy Rossum Confirms ‘Shameless’ Season 8 Return After Pay Dispute
Hooray for negotiation through the media! Shameless star Emmy Rossum rightfully made headlines last week with word of a salary lower than supporting co-star William H. Macy, negotiations of which had held up an eighth season. Now, Rossum appears to have earned her raise, promising to return for Shameless Season 8 production in 2017.
Showtime has yet to confirm an official renewal for Shameless Season 8 (despite Macy having already negotiated the Season 8 deal that kickstarted Rossum’s complaint), but either way, both stars are now set to return to production next year. Tweets Rossum:
For the moment, it remains unclear if Showtime agreed to Rossum’s request for a higher salary than Macy, whose Season 8 deal supposedly “puts his salary in the upper echelon of cable dramas.” It was at least briefly possible that Showtime moved forward on Season 8 without Rossum’s Fiona, similar to how the original U.K. Shameless spent nine of its eleven seasons without Fiona as a regular character.
