The annual party in the hills of South Dakota which is known by one name, 'Rally", the Sturgis Motorcycle rally came to a close Sunday. The sleepy little town will now return to being quiet and will return to normal with a population of 6800. During the rally, Sturgis becomes the largest city in South Dakota and has the largest police force in the state for 10 days every year.

According to KSCJ, the 2018 season had fewer D-U-I arrests and accidents compared to 2017. According to figures released from the South Dakota Highway patrol, there were 149 D-U-I arrests and that figure is down for 161 in 2017.

Arrests for drug related crimes took a huge spike this year with 77 arrests compared to 46 in 2017.

Traffic citations also showed a decrease with about 100 fewer citations compared to last year.

Motorcycle fatalities also decreased in half this year compared to last year with a total of 4 in 2018.

The rally also saw a decrease in injury and non-injury accidents this year.

In review of the numbers from the South Dakota Highway patrol, the 2018 rally will go into the history books as one of the safest in recent years.

The 2019 Sturgis Motorcycle rally dates are August 5 – 11, 2019.
