A bill proposed to increase the speed limit on I-94 and other interstates in North Dakota to 80mph failed to pass.

The bill would have also increased fines for speeding in the state. Concerns about safety on the highway with increased speeds was the biggest factor in the bill being struck down.

According to the Bismarck Tribune, one senator felt that an 80mph speed limit would create too much 'speed discrepancy' on the road. Some motorists would be going near 85 or 90 while others would travel a little below 80 and truckers would be driving near 70.

The speed limit will remain 75mph on I-94 for the time being.
