The Most and Least Violent States in the Country
It wasn't long ago when North Dakota was the gold mine of the country. This is the state where the jobs were and they were very good paying jobs. This was the place where the current day gold rush was happening. With the good job and low unemployment came crime. And crimes that were never or hardly ever seen in our state.
Now that things have leveled off a bit, how is the crime in North Dakota? How do we rank against the rest of the country. 24/7 Wall St. recently published the list of the most and least peaceful states in the country. 24/7 Wall St. created a weighted index to identify the most violent and the most peaceful states. Though there are a handful of exceptions, more violent states tend to be in the South, while the most peaceful states are concentrated in the Northeast.
The results showed the most violent states were in the south. The most violent states are Louisiana (#1) followed by Alaska, Alabama, Nevada and Tennessee. The least violent states are Vermont (#50), Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Hawaii.
North Dakota ranked # 39, or 239.4 per 100,000 (10th lowest) in the violent crime category.
