While it wasn't quite broken down state-by-state, the list of the most popular baby names of 2017 in the U.S. has been released.

If you're expecting, you may be intrigued as to what ended up on the list of the most popular baby names this year. On a personal note, my brother and his wife are expecting, so this was a recent topic of discussion at the family dinner table when I was home this past Thanksgiving weekend.

The most popular name for a boy in 2017 was Atticus. If that sounds familiar, it may be because of the fictional character Atticus Finch, which you may recognize from the book and/or movie "To Kill A Mockingbird." For a girl, the most popular name this past year was Olivia. Celebrities with the name include Olivia Munn, Olivia Wilde, Olivia Newton-John, and also Kerry Washington's character from ABC's TV show 'Scandal,' Olivia Pope.
