As proclaimed by Gov. Jack Dalrymple, September is Suicide Prevention Month in North Dakota.

Local residents are being encouraged to take advantage of awareness events and speakers scheduled throughout September. For residents ages 15-24, suicide is the 1st leading cause of death, while also the 9th leading cause for all North Dakota residents. Last year in North Dakota, there were 137 suicides.

The North Dakota Suicide Prevention Program contains several facts, statistics, myths, and how to get help, regarding suicide. Their Suicide Hotline is available for everyone anytime at 800-273-8255.
