An early morning crash claimed the life of a 72-year-old New Salem man Thursday morning.

According to Bismarck Tribune, the crash happened on I 94, east of New Salem and involved another vehicle.

The accident took place about 6:30 when a Hazen man was heading east on I94, following a truck driven by the 79-year-old New Salem man.

For an unknown reason, the New Salem man hit his brakes and the Hazen man struck the truck from the rear, sending the truck into the ditch where it flipped on its roof.

The New Salem man was dead on the scene. Both men were wearing their seatbelts.

The State Patrol continues to investigate the accident.
