Lifetime finally aired its much-talked about Aaliyah biopic, 'Aaliyah: the Princess of R&B,' on Saturday (Nov. 15) and it was met with a tidal wave of negative criticisms from fans on social media.

Viewers who watched the movie, went on Twitter and Instagram to voice their disapproval and posted a series of memes regarding the questionable casting, the music, and the acting, among other things.

Timbaland, who worked closely with Aaliyah, was the biggest critic. Although the veteran producer did not watch the "bullshit movie," he vowed that Lifetime and the producers, including Wendy Williams, "would feel his wrath."

In their defense, the film's executive producers, Howard Braunstein and Debra Martin Chase, defended the movie and insisted that they did everything they could to present a tasteful biopic about the late songbird.

When asked about the social media furor over the casting and music, the producers admitted that the outrage on Twitter “was hard to ignore, but [we] can’t dwell on it."

“Biopics are hard,” Chase told the Washington Post. “People have an opinion and social media allows them to voice that opinion. But at the end of the day, our goal was to make the best movie possible.”

Did they make the best movie possible? Not according to the Internets.
