According to the Uniform Crime Report, released Tuesday, violent crime in North Dakota rose 7% in 2013, though murders and rapes were actually down from the previous year.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that total crimes statewide totaled 15,685, compared to 14,866 in 2012.

The Uniform Crime Report lists violent crimes as murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.

There were just 14 murders in the state in 2013, compared to 20 in 2012. The number of rape cases also dropped from 243 in 2012 to 237 in 2013.

Unfortunately, the number of other crimes rose in 2013. There were 1,156 aggravated assaults in the state in 2013, up from 1,071 in 2012. Drug arrests also rose dramatically, from 2,872 in 2012 to 3,431 in 2013.
