It's Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras that is celebrated on the Gulf Coast. New Orleans is well known for its celebrations. Other towns that have a celebration is Biloxi, MS, Lafayette, LA, Shreveport, LA and Galveston, TX. But the city that is world famous for the parades and frolicking is New Orleans!

Mardi Gras started thousands of years ago. Also known as Carnival, it is celebrated in many countries around the world–mainly those with large Roman Catholic populations–on the day before the religious season of Lent begins. In other words, you feast on all of the things that could be considered as a vice or fun. Let it all hang out. Then on Wednesday starts the Lenten Season.
