24/7 Wall St. today (5/24) released the annual list of the poorest town in every state.

The term 'poor' is a term that is subjective to interoperation. What is considered poor to one person, maybe considered somewhat different to another. With that said, 24/7 Wall St. used a certain criteria in the naming of the poorest town in each state.

The study viewed several areas including; reviewing median household incomes in every town, population of 25,000 or less. The towns were compared to both national and state figures. The survey used the numbers and figures from the  U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey. You can read more of the research criteria here.

The poorest town in North Dakota is Devils Lake. With a population of just over 7000, and a medium income of $39,000, compared to the state medium income of $59.000. Devils Lake poverty rate is just above 16%.

The poorest state and town in the country is Mississippi.
