With the release this week of Man of Steel - the latest take on Superman - a curiously morbid urban legend has re-emerged: the Superman Curse.

The so-called “curse,” which chronicles misfortune involving actors and behind-the-scenes talent involved in the Superman franchise, has a storied history that dates back more than 60 years.

Actors who have donned the super boots over the decades include Kirk Alyn (whose career faltered due to typecasting); George Reeves (who committed suicide - and no, he did not jump out a window); Christopher Reeve (paralyzed in a horse-riding accident); Dean Cain and Brandon Routh (who failed to make much of an impression on anyone).

Man of Steel star Henry Cavill, arguably the best actor to tackle the role since Christopher Reeve, says he's not concerned about the curse.  For local theater listings, go here...
