Wonder Woman was definitely a major highlight of 2017, and thankfully the folks at Warner Bros. quickly recognized they’ve got something special on their hands because the sequel — Wonder Woman 1984 — is already filming. Although we won’t get to see Diana back on the big screen until next year, director Patty Jenkins has been sharing some early sneak peeks from the sequel, including our first look at Kristen Wiig as the villain.

Jenkins revealed the first official photo of Wiig from Wonder Woman 1984 over on Twitter with the caption, “Enter Barbara Minerva…”

If you’re like me, your first thought was probably like, “Wait, who?” before you realized it’s the real name of Kristen Wiig’s villain — aka Cheetah. I love that we can’t see what she’s looking at in this photo, but based on her alter ego and the fact that she’s standing in an animal exhibit, it’s pretty safe to assume that it’s a cheetah.

I also love that the Wonder Woman sequel will feature another female villain, and I can’t wait to see how Jenkins explores the complexities of Wiig’s character in contrast to Gal Gadot’s heroic Diana.

As indicated by the title, Wonder Woman 1984 will bring Diana into the ’80s — along with Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor…somehow. We got our first look at Pine’s very era-appropriate look a few weeks back, along with the film’s official logo. Wonder Woman 1984 also stars Pedro Pascal and is rumored to feature a cameo by OG Wonder Woman Lynda Carter. The sequel hits theaters on November 1, 2019.
