Services for Sgt. 1st Class Darren M. Linde, 41, of Devils Lake, N.D., were held Tuesday afternoon in Sidney, Mont., where he grew up. The funeral for Spc. Tyler J. Orgaard, 20, of Bismarck, will be held Thursday.
SFC Linde and SPC Orgaard were members of the North Dakota National Guard who were killed in action on December 3rd in southern Afghanistan. Another soldier, SPC Ian Placek was wounded in the blast but is recovering. SPC Placek will return home for the services for SPC Orgaard.
SFC Linde was buried in Sidney Cemetery in Sidney, MT and SPC Orgaard will be buried at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
On Wednesday, Eastgate Funeral Service’s Parkway Funeral location, 2330 Tyler Parkway, will be open to the public from 2 to 8 p.m. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. at the same location then the funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Church of Corpus Christi, 1919 N. Second St., Bismarck. Burial will follow immediately after the service at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, 1825 46th St., Mandan. The North Dakota National Guard has clarified that the funeral for Orgaard is open to the public, but the family requests that photos or videos not be taken during the service.
SPC Orgaard was a member of Bismarck Combat Sports and his family has set up a fund in his name at Gate City Bank to go to the gym where he loved to train.
