In America, certain states are known for certain things.

From Maine lobster to Georgia peaches to Idaho potatoes, the identity of a state sometimes goes hand in hand with its best-known export.

So which items are synonymous with South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota?

The website Travel Alot narrowed it down for us on their list of The Most Popular Product from Each State.

Iowa - Maytag Washing Machine

The Maytag brand (which is now owned by Whirpool) dates back to Newton, Iowa when the brand was launched by Frederick Maytag in 1893.

The brand really took off in 1969 with the introduction of the 'Maytag Repairman' ad campaign.

Minnesota - Post-It Notes

In the North Star State, Maplewood-based 3M launched the product after a company scientist, Spencer Silver, failed his initial attempt to develop a super-strong adhesive in 1968. What he actually created was a much less sticky, reusable, pressure-sensitive adhesive that became the key component of the product when it was launched in 1977.

3M now sells over 50 billion individual Post-it notes each year.
