North Dakota Target shoppers and patrons across America will notice yet another change coming on Monday, July 15th, 2024.

You may recall that Target stores across the country have begun implementing changes to their self-checkout lanes.  These lanes will eventually all be restricted to 10 items or less.

The reasons for this change are likely to cut down on theft and to speed up the self-checkout experience. This is a growing trend not only in retail but in other businesses across the country too.

Dollar General recently did away with all of their self-checkouts because of the growing theft problem that has become an epidemic with customers.  You can read all about that here.  Store leaders finally said, "Enough is enough".

So, what will North Dakota Target Stores and across the country be doing away with?

It's something that customers have been doing in stores for decades.  Something that has gone the way of flip or bag phones, answering machines, the Rolodex, and smoking in bars.

According to NBC News, as of Monday, July 15th, 2024, you will no longer be able to write a check at Target Stores.

That's right, that prehistoric form of payment will not be accepted at North Dakota Target Stores and across the country.

This shouldn't be a major shake-up for most Target customers, but according to a person I spoke to who works at a retail store here in Bismarck, a surprising number of older and elderly customers still write checks at the time of checkout.

Target said in the article, that this new policy is meant to streamline the checkout process.  As of now, rival Walmart will still accept personal checks.
