Over 6 inches of rain have fallen in a good chunk of Grant County in southwest North Dakota.

Which is ironic, considering western North Dakota was supposed to miss out on the big rains from this current system, according to some of the local meteorologists' earlier forecasts.

It's ended up the opposite, and counties like Grant, Oliver, western Morton, and Mercer have seen rainfall in the 5 to 6 inch range.

I just got off the phone with the National Weather Service in Bismarck, and our official total at the airport is 2.28 inches as of Noon, Friday, March 16th, and it's not done raining yet.

Rain is likely to continue throughout Friday afternoon.

We could see another quarter inch of rain or so, as wrap-around moisture continues to drench central and western North Dakota.

So, the rainfall totals I'm about to give you will likely increase another quarter inch or better.

More rain is in the forecast Sunday evening into early next week. Just like that, our wildfire concerns have been extinguished. At least for now, we'll take it.
