Credit card debt is not fun and most people understand that when you use a credit card, you need to use it wisely.

CreditCards.com just released a list of credit card debt burdens by state and determined that North Dakota has the lowest credit card debt burden in the US.

The way the website came up with these findings was by analyzing how long it would take to pay off the average credit card balance by using 15 percent of the median income in each state.

In North Dakota the average credit card debt is $4,599. The median income of the state is $34,336. If you take 15 percent of those earnings, you get $429. At $370 interest, it would take just 12 months to pay off that $4,599 debt. That is the lowest in the country.
