There's a new singing competition on your TV called "The American Song Contest."  What's unique about this singing competition is that there's one singer from each state.  Representing North Dakota is Chloe Fredericks who was raised on a ranch near Medora, North Dakota.  Chloe has advanced to the semi-finals on the show, which will begin tonight on NBC at 7 pm.  You can see all the semi-finalists in American Song Contest here.

Chloe Fredericks's early influences in music were classic country artists like Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline and Emmylou Harris.  After her initial performance on the show, I would say she has both a country and edgy rock sound.

Here's her electric performance that had the crowd on their feet and moved her on to the semi-finals.

So, how does the American Song Contest work anyway?  Good question and I decided to do some digging for you.  According to NBC Insider, there are a total of 56 contestants from each of the 50 states, territories, and the District of Columbia.

The goal of the show is to win the best original song and only one winner will be crowned.  This will be done with a  combination of viewer voting and votes from a jury of music industry experts.

There are 5 qualifying rounds with 11 artists in each episode.  Chloe Frederics from North Dakota performed last night.  March 21st, 28th, April 4th, 11th, and 18th.  Then comes two semifinal rounds, which began last Monday, April 25th, and tonight, followed by the Grand Final with 10 artists on May 9th.

The panel of music experts will choose one artist to advance immediately to the next round.  Three more spots will then be available to move on as well, which will be chosen by a combination of fan votes and the jury of music experts.

Best of luck to Chloe Fredericks in the semi-finals.  Way to make North Dakota proud.
