Nerdwallet just released the top 100 best small cities to live in. Many of the Midwest cities made it to the top 100. Moorhead, MN ranked #1.

Other Midwest small towns in the top ranks are Mankato, MN at #5 and Winona, MN at #2.

Nerdwallet used the following indicators to make the top 100 best small cities. Economic health, affordability and quality of life. The survey looked at more than 1,300 cities that have a population of less than 75,000. The study also noticed the following-

  • Midwest cities rate highly based on their relatively low cost of living, short commutes, and generally healthy economic conditions.
  • College towns score better. Most of the top 10 cities have at least one college or university, and higher education institutions are a draw for employers and residents.

Based on these factors, only two cities in North Dakota made the list. #37, Grand Forks and #69, West Fargo, ND.
