This week, tribal officials in the Dakotas are gathering in Bismarck for the 20th annual Tribal Leaders Summit.

Tuesday through Thursday of this week, the event will include a trade show at the Bismarck Event Center. The event is hosted by United Tribes Technical College and precedes the institution's 47th annual International Powwow next weekend.

This years, summit topics consist of tribal governance and sovereignty, education, housing, transportation, economic development, child welfare, language and culture, and law enforcement and justice.

Bismarck Mayor Mike Seminary has said the summit and powwow bring about 20,000 people to the city each year, and also boosts the local economy by about $1.8 million.
