We’ve barely begun the rigmarole of American Horror Story teasing its seventh season, but it’ll be time yet before Ryan Murphy beings his flagship anthology franchise to a close. FX has officially picked up an additional two seasons of American Horror Story, likely taking us through at least 2019. Just like our real-life American horror story!

FX made the announcement ahead of its TCA press tour panel, adding an eighth and ninth season order to the already-confirmed seventh year. Said FX of the announcement:

Each new chapter is a cultural event, beloved for every new twist in imagery, style, cast and plot. We are thrilled that Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and the entire creative team will continue to deliver the groundbreaking, celebrated “American Horror Story” for years to come.

Last we heard, Murphy claimed Season 7 “does have a big hook behind it,” one that might feature the return of several characters from American Horror Story: Freak Show. Additionally, a separate upcoming season might bring together Murder House and Coven characters, to say nothing of whatever “secret season” Murphy has reportedly been writing.

We’ll have more clarification as FX begins its day at TCA, but is American Horror Story worth an additional two seasons? How might all the various themes and stories start coming together?
