Famed novel American Psycho, Brett Easton Ellis' scathing condemnation of yuppie culture, will open on Broadway in 2016.

According to Playbill, a musical production of American Psycho has reportedly been in the works for a few years now and was supposed to make its initial Off-Broadway debut in early 2015. But producers ultimately decided to take the musical straight to Broadway, instead, delaying its opening for a full year.

Benjamin Walker will play the main role of serial killer Patrick Bateman in the musical, which is set to officially open on March 21, 2016, at a Shubert theatre that has yet to be announced.

Director Rupert Goold spoke about working with Walker, saying (via Playbill), "I’ve been a huge fan of Ben’s work on stage and screen and am really looking forward to working with him on American Psycho. He is an enormous talent and I think audiences will be utterly seduced by his dangerous charisma and extraordinary stage presence. He’ll make a killer Patrick Bateman.”

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa wrote the book for the stage adaptation, while music and lyrics for the production were written by Grammy and Tony winner Duncan Sheik. Sheik is also behind the music for the immensely successful musical Spring Awakening. And if his name sounds familiar to you outside of the Broadway world, you’re probably remembering his successful 1996 radio hit “Barely Breathing."

Ellis' novel, published in 1991, was well received upon its initial debut. Its popularity was further cemented in the pop culture lexicon after the film adaption, starring Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman, was met with immense financial and critical success.

We sure hope Bateman's penchant for returning videotapes finds its way into the production.
