It’s hard to imagine Avengers: Infinity War having any deleted scenes; the movie is already a massive 2 hours and 40 minutes as is. But as the Russo brothers reveal, their director’s cut wasn’t too different from the theatrical cut we got. There was is one deleted scene, however, and we can look forward to seeing on the Blu-ray release.

The co-directors dropped by Entertainment Weekly‘s Morning Live Sirius XM radio show last Friday to chat about the superhero film and what didn’t make the final cut. Joe Russo said their initial director’s cut was roughly close to the actual runtime, around 2 hours and 30-40 minutes. He said the majority of the shot material that was cut from the final film was mainly “little loose ends here and there,” but there was one Guardians scene that didn’t make it. Anthony Russo described it, spoiler-free, as such:

It’s a scene where they’re sort of stuck. There’s a point in the movie where they’re stuck without knowing what to do. And it was sort of this absurd scene of the Guardians not knowing where to go. And it was really fun and it was very endearing to us. But because the movie is so big and so propulsive, it just wasn’t quite pushing us where we needed to go.

Joe Russo said it is a comedic scene, so you can understand why it was trimmed from the final film, already busy with juggling a million and one story threads. But given that some of my favorite parts of Infinity War were the playful Guardians banter, it’s a bummer it didn’t make it in the movie. Joe Russo promises it’ll be on the home video release though. Until then, continue crying over that spoiler James Gunn revealed over the weekend.
