In a poignant commentary on the state of the current government, the Siberian city of Barnaul, Russia is unofficially backing a feline friend in the race for mayor.

The city council, together with the regional governor, have six candidates from which to pick the city's next head. But in an online poll pitting those six against Barsik the Siamese, the cat racked up an astounding 90% of the vote.

Gov. Alexander Karlin hears the message loud and clear:

Through the image of Barsik the cat, our people are sending definite wishes to the future head of Barnaul.

Commiserates local Communist Party official Ivan Karpov:

The conclusion has been made that there's absolutely no trust among voters for any of the candidates.
