Be Our Guest and Check Out the First Full ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Trailer
We’ve only seen brief glimpses of Emma Watson’s Belle in Disney’s latest live-action remake, but today we finally get to see Beauty meet the Beast.
The first full trailer for Beauty and the Beast finds Watson’s Belle entering the enchanted castle for the first time where she finds her father, Maurice (Kevin Kline), held captive by the owner. She meets the Beast (Dan Stevens) along with the rest of the beloved house characters, from Ewan McGregor’s French-accented Lumière to Ian McKellen’s Cogworth to Emma Thompson’s Mrs. Potts. We also get a look at Luke Evans’ angry Gaston as he rallies a group of men against the Beast, plus lots and lots of ballroom dancing.
Beyond the cast, this new version looks pretty gorgeous. Director Bill Condon (Dream Girls) brings a radiance to the movie with some great looking CGI – and luckily the Beast doesn’t look too silly. (The recent French live-action remake made Vincent Cassel’s Beast look like a weird giant cat.)
There’s plenty of familiar characteristics for Beauty and the Beast fans in the new trailer, but Condon’s live-action version will also feature an upgrade to Watson’s character. Instead of just being a bookworm, Belle is also an inventor in the new film. “We created a backstory for her, which was that she had invented a kind of washing machine, so that, instead of doing laundry, she could sit and use that time to read instead,” Condon told Entertainment Weekly.
The movie will feature new songs from legendary Disney composer Alan Menken. It also stars Josh Gad as Le Fou, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, Stanley Tucci as Cadenza, and Audra McDonald as Garderobe. Beauty and the Beast hits theaters March 17, 2017.
