5 Funny But Honest Reasons North Dakota Has The Worst Drivers
Look, I'm very far from perfect. I may hit a curb or two from time to time, and sometimes make too wide of turns. On occasion, I even have to question whether or not the light was even green when I went through the last intersection. Yes, I'll be the first to tell you that I'm not the best driver, so please take everything that's about to be said here with a grain of salt - this is just a laughing but sorta serious situation.
5 Reasons North Dakota has the Worst Drivers
As someone who’s been living in Bismarck for more than five years, I’ve noticed some things when it comes to our bad driving.
I put together a list of 5 brutally honest reasons North Dakota has the worst drivers.
#1 No One's Paying Attention
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sat at a stoplight and waited until it almost turned red again for the person in front of me to realize that you’re supposed to go when it turns green.
The odd thing is, that a lot of the times they’re not even on their phones. They’re just la-dee-da-ing. I love, to la-dee-da, don’t get me wrong. I even love to dilly dally, but NOT WHILE I'M DRIVING. We've all got places to be ...beep beep, sir
#2 Slow Turns
Nothing incites road rage quite like people who turn like turtles. You know you’re not supposed to come to a complete stop while you're turning, right? You still have to push the gas pedal a little bit. I’m trying to get through this light, man. Let’s GOOOO!

#3 No Stop Signs
This is not entirely our fault, and it might not be the case for every North Dakota city, but in Bismarck, why are there so many areas without stop signs? Have you ever driven around southeast Bismarck over by Laughing Sun and Bistro? I've lived over there and can tell you without a moment of hesitation, that area is a lawless land. You pray to sweet baby Jesus and hope you get to where you’re going without getting t-boned.
#4 No Turn Signals
Maybe it’s because we’re so comfortable driving around in our rural communities, that we don’t really think it’s necessary to use our blinkers all the time, but let me assure you, it is. And don’t be that person that waits the last second. If you're not going to do it, commit.
#5. Bad Parking
I'm sure you've seen some of the recent posts on Bismarck Can't Park and other North Dakota parking pages...it's getting WILD out here. We've got cars hanging off ledges, cars teeter-tottering over medians... what's actually going on?! Baby you drunk?
That's all I've got folks. Be careful out there!
